The School in the Village of Hovtashen is Named After Hero Vardan Mkrtchyan Who Died in Askeran
Yesterday, September 21, was not only a celebration of the 28th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia for the residents of the village of Hovtashen in the Ararat region, but also a day marked by the principles of pride and hope for the future.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the village culture house hosted a celebration not only for the 28th anniversary of independence but also for the naming of the school.
The school has been named after local resident Vardan Mkrtchyan, who heroically defended the combat line of the Askeran region of the Republic of Artsakh, sacrificing his life on January 3, 2015, and thwarting the diversionary activities of Azerbaijani forces at the age of 20.
A grand evening honoring hero V. Mkrtchyan was held in the culture house's hall, featuring live music and songs. Everyone expressed in their speeches that individuals like Vardan will never be forgotten. They proved by their heroic deaths that they are the descendants of the Armenian Patriarch, and we always look from our village towards the biblical mountain with the belief that there are many Vardans and there will be many more. Their heroic deeds compel us to live and act as they wished.
