People Wait 3-4 Hours for Yerevan-Gyumri Train Tickets

As is already known, the events celebrating the 28th anniversary of Armenia's independence are taking place in Gyumri this year. The agenda of the events is quite tight, and a week ago it was impossible to find free spaces in guesthouses and hotels.

Traveling to Gyumri by train from Yerevan has become an extremely difficult task since early morning. Citizens report that it is almost impossible to purchase tickets, with several meter-long queues at the ticket counters. People are waiting for 3-4 hours to buy a train ticket.

Tigran Uguchyan, a doctor-epidemiologist and public health expert, told Armenian Time that he wanted to organize a weekend with friends in Gyumri. He mentioned that they had been told earlier that they needed to queue early in the morning to buy a Yerevan-Gyumri train ticket, which they did, waiting by the ticket counter since 8 AM.

“There are no tickets, no one is clearly saying how many trains there will be, where they will depart from, the Russian company does not have a website, and the times listed on the site are not official. They said to come early in the morning to get tickets. We’ve been here since 8 AM, and there is already a long queue. For the 9:15 AM train, tickets were already sold out, and they say we will sell tickets for the train departing at 9:55 AM. The 9:15 train moves, and at 9:16 they close the counter,” he said.

Angry and heated youths rushed into the train and declared that they would not leave until tickets were sold to them as well. Police officers present on site approached to negotiate, and the youths eventually exited.

The special train departed at 11:00 AM, which means that the people on board will arrive and participate in the events at noon. Citizens noted that it was impossible not to know that a large number of people were arriving in Gyumri from Yerevan today, and the question of organizing additional trains could have been arranged earlier.
