VIDEO: Protesters Sing in Front of Government Building
Participants of the march for Amulsar have reached Republic Square. The demonstrators are voicing their opposition to the exploitation of the gold mine. They welcomed students from the schools of Jermuk and Gndevaz, who did not attend school today as a sign of protest.
Annah Shahnazaryan, a representative of the Armenian Environmental Front, stated that their goals are just and urged participants to remain peaceful. The protesters chant slogans such as 'Amulsar is only a mountain' and 'Amulsar without a mine.'
The demonstrators approached the government building, shouting slogans against the mine exploitation and offshore dealings. This latter issue is related to the offshore company, Lydian, which operates the Amulsar mine. The march is accompanied by drummers. Following that, the participants began to sing folk songs, adding the word Amulsar to the lyrics.
