VIDEO: How pathetic must a person be to think my father could hide? Levon Kocharyan
After the events of the past year, it is difficult to expect anything good, but the expectation is that at least bail will be applied. This was stated today, on September 20, during a conversation with reporters at the Shengavit court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan by Robert Kocharyan's son, Levon Kocharyan.
“It is very absurd, and how pathetic must a person be to think that my father, having such a biography, could evade or hide. This is offensive to us. I believe that both the prosecutors, the judges, and the broad masses of the public are confident that there is no question of evasion or hiding, as he has neither evaded nor obstructed anything while being free for 5 months. Plus, he himself came to present himself. All of this is clear, they simply have the intention of dragging the trial out for years, at least during this time to punish him,” said Levon Kocharyan.
He informed that at this moment, only the assets of Robert Kocharyan and his elder son, Sedrak Kocharyan, are frozen. “My accounts are not frozen at this moment; they were once frozen, but then they were lifted by the court,” he added.
Responding to the question of what Kocharyan’s supporters will do if he is not released today, Levon Kocharyan replied, “Even if bail is not applied, it becomes clear that there is no legal process here.”
He emphasized that if the specific case has entered the court, they do not have the right to select a measure of restraint, considering other criminal cases.
Addressing the situation surrounding the Constitutional Court, he stated, “It is extremely clear what is happening there. The judges and the structures that are not 100% under the current government's control want to get rid of them, and this is mostly related to our case. You know what pressures were applied against the Constitutional Court after certain events. They say they are former, but isn’t the chief prosecutor not former?”
It should be noted that a decision regarding the measure of restraint for Robert Kocharyan will be announced today. Robert Kocharyan's defense team submitted a motion to change his measure of restraint from imprisonment. They are proposing either to apply bail or to choose other measures of restraint not related to imprisonment.
Former CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov, an accused in this case, also arrived at the court. Supporters of Robert Kocharyan and the government are gathered near the court building. Aram Manukyan, a member of the HAK, is also present here.
