Azerbaijani Language in Armenian-Language School Textbooks
This week, on September 16, the 2019-2020 academic year began in Georgia. In connection with the new academic year, schools received newly printed textbooks.
From an Armenian-language school, images have been provided to "Aliq Media," where it is visible that some lessons or portions of lessons in the Armenian-language textbook are in Azerbaijani. The following image shows the history textbook for the 9th grade.
In a conversation with the publisher of the books, they stated that they would try to clarify how the error occurred.
We also contacted students from several schools in Georgian villages populated by Azerbaijanis, who informed us that they had not seen anything like this: "There is nothing like this in my book. I have not heard whether this has happened in previous years," said a 9th-grade student from the village of Takalo in Marneuli, who wished to remain anonymous.
We reached out to students and teachers from Armenian-populated villages across various regions of Georgia, and from our conversations, it became clear that such incidents have not been recorded before.
The editorial staff also mentioned that no one had approached them on this issue before, although similar cases have occurred in the past.
Below, we present the previous editions of the 9th-grade history textbook of Georgia.
