Circumstances of the April War Will Lead to Resignations in the Ministry of Defense
The results of the investigative commission studying the circumstances of the April Four-Day War in 2016 will lead to dismissals in the Ministry of Defense. This information, circulating in the media, was not denied today by Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan during a conversation with reporters at the National Assembly.
“It is being discussed. The commission will complete its work; we will see. Based on the results, decisions will be made,” said Tonoyan. He also did not deny that he is somewhat familiar with the commission's findings. The ministry is also providing necessary information to the commission.
“The work of the commission is effective at this moment, because the information they are receiving, I believe, will be sufficient for drawing conclusions,” Tonoyan stated.
The Defense Minister also mentioned that he has not participated in the work of the commission and has not received an invitation from it.
Recall that on May 20, 2019, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the necessity of creating an investigative commission to study the circumstances of the April War during a session of the National Assembly. Pashinyan stated that “the time has come to establish a National Assembly investigative commission to examine the circumstances of the April 2016 war.”
Later, National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan announced that the powers of the investigative commission established to study the circumstances of the military actions launched in April 2016 would be carried out by the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security. The commission is headed by Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly.
