Compensation Will Be Provided to Families Affected by Hail in Shirak

Starting from September 16, a total of 925 families, comprising 4,606 individuals, will receive humanitarian assistance in the form of monetary support from the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS) due to the severe hailstorm that occurred on June 27 in the Shirak province.

Each member of these families will receive 32,575 AMD (a total of 150,040,450 AMD). Following the disaster, the Shirak provincial administration conducted a preliminary needs assessment to identify the most vulnerable families who had lost 75-100% of their crops. The ARCS, as a supporting organization to the government in the humanitarian sector, submitted a program to the Emergency Fund for Disaster Response of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise funds to assist the affected population, receiving a positive response.

The ARCS has finalized and clarified the lists of the most affected families in close cooperation with the regional and local self-government bodies. The monetary support will be provided to the most affected families in Shirak, Hovit, Kamo, Basen, Jrarat, and Karnut residents through the “Gyumri” and “Ani” branches of Haybusinessbank.

The ARCS has been implementing various programs in Shirak province for many years, supporting vulnerable seniors living alone, children and youth, families of the missing, low-income families, vulnerable communities, and individuals suffering from tuberculosis. This activity includes disaster risk management and increasing community resilience, implementing a home care model for the elderly and promoting healthy longevity, providing social-psychological support, and spreading humanitarian values.
