Kuwaiti Sheikh Hussa Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah Arrives in Armenia
Invited by the First Lady of Armenia, Nune Sargsyan, Kuwaiti Sheikh Hussa Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah has arrived in Armenia. As part of an exploratory visit, Sheikh Hussa will tour several attractions and cultural institutions, including the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran), the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, the National Gallery of Armenia, and the History Museum, where she will become acquainted with the cultural heritage of the Armenian people.
The possibility of showcasing pieces from the renowned Al-Sabah collection in Yerevan will also be discussed. The Al-Sabah collection features valuable art pieces, including unique manuscripts, carpets, precious jewelry, ceramics, metal works, and creations made of wood and glass. With over 30,000 items, the collection represents the culture and art of various countries from different geographical and temporal periods.
Sheikh Hussa Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah regularly lectures on Islamic culture and art at universities and cultural institutions in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. She is actively involved in preserving architectural monuments, particularly working on the preservation and restoration of historical buildings in Bahrain, Syria, and Egypt.
The Kuwaiti Islamic Antiquities Museum (DAI) was founded based on the collection of Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and his wife, Sheikh Hussa Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. DAI's primary functions include organizing lectures, concerts, forums, exhibitions, and training, conducting research, and publishing books. DAI also houses two libraries, one of which contains a rich collection of books on Islamic art and culture, while the other holds rare books. Moreover, the books from this collection are currently being digitized to become accessible to a wider range of scholars and interested individuals.
