The Investigation Was Never Within My Authority, Says Kocharian

During a court session of the case involving the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, held at the Shengavit residence of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, the victims' legal successors also spoke out.

The father of Gor Kloyan, who was killed during the events of March 1, presented some details regarding the events and accused Robert Kocharian of failing to disclose the circumstances surrounding the case. Similarly, the mother of sergeant Tigran Abgaryan, who was also killed during those events, accused Kocharian, stating that her son was killed while performing his duties on Leo Street, where there were no protesters present, and that her son was killed simply to demonstrate that there were casualties on both sides.

Robert Kocharian responded to the accusations, claiming that there were indeed protesters on Leo Street. “The investigation was never within my authority; I have never had the right to interfere. This is offensive to me also because lawyers work with those individuals and can explain that this is not the case. My impression is that they are simply being taught to say what can create the impression publicly that I am to blame. As for Ms. Abgaryan, it is obvious that she does not have a grasp of the materials of the case,” said Robert Kocharian.

It is worth noting that during the session, the defense’s motion to lift the preventive measure and to discontinue the criminal prosecution, stemming from a Constitutional Court ruling, was addressed, against which the prosecution and the victims' legal successors objected.
