Parliament to Discuss the Mandatory Status of Chess in Schools

In the near future, discussions will begin in the National Assembly’s Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports regarding the mandatory status of chess education in schools.

In this regard, the committee chairman, Mikhtar Hayrapetyan, wrote on his Facebook page: "Considering the recent concerns expressed by chess players and schoolchildren's parents regarding the subject of 'Chess', we plan to conduct a comprehensive discussion on this issue in the National Assembly’s Committee on Education, Science, Culture, and Sports."

Specifically, the following questions will be addressed:

  • How to increase the functional significance of implementing chess classes?
  • How to enhance the cost-effectiveness of the sector?
  • How to integrate modern technologies into the preparation and assessment processes of chess classes, which will help motivate children more?
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of making chess a mandatory and/or optional subject.
