Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation of CSTO Meets in Yerevan

The seventeenth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is currently taking place in Yerevan.

The meeting is chaired by Yuri Borisov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and President of the commission. Valery Semerikov, the acting Secretary General of the CSTO, is also participating in the proceedings.

Participants will discuss a wide range of implementation issues related to the decisions adopted by the commission during its meeting in Almaty (Kazakhstan) in September last year, as well as matters regarding the implementation of the Military-Economic Cooperation Program adopted by CSTO member states in May 2016.

Topics under discussion include the execution of measures in the sphere of standardization of armaments and military equipment within the framework of the CSTO, the creation of a cataloging system for items supplied to the armed forces of member states, increasing the quality of jointly developed and produced military-importance products, and mutual protection of intellectual rights arising from military-economic cooperation between CSTO member states.

Based on the outcomes of the discussions, the commission is expected to set its priorities for the upcoming year.

Prior to the plenary meeting, a two-day session of the working group on Military-Economic Cooperation, associated with the commission’s chairman, was held in Yerevan on September 10-11, with the participation of experts from CSTO member states to finalize and coordinate the documentation presented for the commission's consideration.

The Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation of the CSTO was established by a decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council on June 23, 2005. One of the main tasks of the commission is to adopt recommendations and decisions aimed at ensuring the multilateral military-economic (technical) cooperation in priority areas of collaboration. This includes the development and implementation of long-term programs for military-economic (technical) cooperation, maintaining specialization and cooperation in the production of military-importance products, creating joint ventures for the development, production, modernization, and repair of military products, as well as conducting joint scientific research and design work aimed at the creation and modernization of military-importance products.
