The Thick Rope of Trust Connecting to the Ruling Force is Left with a Thin Button Thread: Suren Sahakyan

Leader of the 'Citizen's Decision' party, Suren Sahakyan, made a post on his Facebook page addressing the legitimacy and obligations of the National Assembly and the government. Sahakyan specifically noted that under such a low level of trust in the ruling power, the promised reforms have a high chance of failing.

“The current government, the National Assembly, the ruling force have an obligation and commitment to carry out wide and deep reforms. Failure to do so will have disastrous consequences primarily for them, but also for all of us who will share in it equally. Such reforms can only be implemented in conditions of high legitimacy and trust. Under a low level of trust, there is a great chance for those reforms to fail, especially considering the recent abilities demonstrated by the ruling power in developing and implementing them.”

“So what is the ruling power doing to gain this trust and the legitimacy necessary for carrying out crucial reforms or at least to not lose the existing trust? In the case of the Amulsar issue, after establishing a certain agreement with citizens, they changed the terms after not getting what they wanted. And it raises the question: what reasonable force or person would discuss and agree around a round table if they know that the agreements reached would not be fulfilled sooner than they would be fulfilled? Let’s step outside the realm of domestic politics. Which country or union would sit down to discuss serious matters with such a power that undermines its citizens?”

“In my case, as a citizen, I can say that there is nothing left of the thick rope of trust that connected me to the ruling power 1.5 years ago, except for a thin button thread. The Amulsar issue is no longer just about whether it will become a mine or remain a mountain. The Amulsar issue is about whether we will have a new political system, whether we will have good laws for political parties, and whether we will have a good electoral code. Don’t you believe it, friends? Try it!”
