There Are 249 Buses on the Mayor's Balance That Are Not Deployed, Marutyan Clarifies
The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, stated in a conversation with journalists that the use of public transport has remained consistent over time. “I can’t say that it is used very frequently, but I can’t say it is rare either,” he said.
He acknowledged the existing issues related to transportation, emphasizing that these problems have persisted for the last 15 years. “We aim to resolve this long-standing issue in the next two years. The process is underway, and an inter-agency group has been formed to study our proposals,” he noted.
When addressing the fare issue, Marutyan mentioned that the prices should be kept as low as possible. “The community should play a significant role in the transport system,” he added.
Regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that 249 buses are on the city hall's balance but are not operational, Marutyan explained that they replace route taxis that have exceeded their 15-year lifespan with buses. “In total, we need a little more than 800 buses for the system to operate effectively, and we are in discussions with the government,” he stated.
