Street Cleaning to be Conducted with Vacuum Machines
The Yerevan Council has made a decision in its session today, September 10, to increase the number of staff at the municipal enterprise "Yerevan Waste Collection and Sanitary Cleaning." A new staffing list has been approved.
The issue was presented by Deputy Mayor Haik Sargsyan. "Considering that the Armenian branch of 'Sanitek' LLC and 'Sanitek International' LLC are not fulfilling their contractual obligations for service provision throughout the entire administrative territory of Yerevan, waste collection and sanitary cleaning services will be implemented through the enterprise in the twelve administrative districts of the city.
Taking into account that the volume of services provided by the Enterprise encompasses the entire administrative territory of Yerevan, as well as the need for clearing snow during the winter months, executing street cleaning, and transporting snow, it has become necessary to adopt the proposed decision to ensure the Mayor of Yerevan is fulfilling their compulsory powers.
The project proposes to increase the enterprise's staffing, including workers, cleaners, and drivers, which will ensure the operational capacity of all equipment. The total number of positions will be 647, with a monthly budget of around 161 million drams.
The Deputy Mayor noted that the overall funding allocated to this sector in the Yerevan budget will not exceed the amounts that were planned for payment to 'Sanitek' in previous budgets. The maximum amount is around 5.2 billion drams. "We are preparing to implement much better services within the same budget framework," he added.
In response to a question about whether the 150 cleaners in the enterprise will be able to clean all of Yerevan, Haik Sargsyan replied that the 150 cleaners will mainly be responsible for cleaning yard areas, which has never happened in the case of 'Sanitek'. "Street cleaning will be carried out using vacuum machines, which are 15 times more efficient than a cleaner's work speed," he concluded.
