Points System Will Not Affect Lawful Drivers with 4-5 Violations a Year
The National Assembly today presented a points system for traffic violations, which will assign penalty points to offending drivers. Following the threshold breach, drivers will temporarily lose their driving rights.
“Eighty percent of our drivers are lawful. Therefore, we can only talk about the 10-20 percent that fall under the influence of this law. Lawful drivers who make 4-5 violations a year will not be threatened by this, unless, of course, those violations are classified as points violations,” said Deputy Chief of Police Hovhannes Kocharyan in response to questions about the project at the National Assembly.
Regarding the notion that sometimes violations are due to the state of the roads, Kocharyan explained that the points system includes violations unrelated to roadway conditions, such as driving under the influence, running red lights, speeding, and so on.
