Authorities Don't Control the Media Landscape: Samvel Martirosyan

In the past, political news was mainly concentrated in the pre-election period, but recently, political news has become continuous. According to media expert Samvel Martirosyan, today the flow of information exceeds its consumption.

In revolutionary Armenia, Facebook became the main platform for political and societal discussions. During that time, there was an influx of 200,000 users. At some point, the number of active Facebook users reached 1.5 million. However, for several months now, Facebook's growth has stagnated in Armenia, and there are indications of a decline, with the number of active users now approximately 1.2 million.

The media expert noted that this decline is primarily due to the youth, as a significant number of young people are migrating from Facebook to less politicized platforms. Samvel Martirosyan also highlighted that the media landscape has ceased to be controlled by the authorities, resulting in uncontrollable government flows. Consequently, political forces are forced to wage war against each other within the media space.
