US Administration Officials Criticize Macron for Attempting to Pressure Trump: Wall Street Journal
US administration officials have criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for attempting to pressure US President Donald Trump ahead of the G7 summit, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to the publication, representatives of the US authorities have criticized Macron in personal conversations for trying to engage Trump in discussions on "current issues" such as climate change and Africa's development.
It is noted that members of the American administration are dissatisfied with Macron's plan to hold a working breakfast in a face-to-face format during the summit, which was not prearranged.
As reported by the publication's source, at that meeting, Macron insisted on discussing environmental issues and secured Trump's support on topics that primarily align with the political interests of the French leader.
It should be reminded that the G7 summit began on the evening of August 24 in Biarritz, France. Earlier, Trump had expressed displeasure regarding the necessity of attending the summit, calling it a waste of time due to the excessive attention given to environmental issues.
