Over 50 Armenians Stranded at Sharm El Sheikh Airport for More Than 10 Hours; Flight Scheduled for Evening
Today, the flight from Sharm El Sheikh to Yerevan, scheduled for 04:45 AM, has been delayed. Approximately 50-55 Armenians have been stranded at the Egyptian Sharm El Sheikh Airport for more than 10 hours.
“Our flight was at 4:45 AM, but when we arrived at the airport and reached the registration line for Armenians, they simply took our passports and said that Armenians were not flying today because the flight was closed. They did not provide any explanations or specify what the reason was,” said Siranush Grigoryan, one of the stranded travelers, in an interview with Tert.am.
She reported that nearly 50-55 Armenians, including many young children, had been left waiting at the airport for over 10 hours. “We were neglected; our tour operator here absolutely did not answer our calls, and no one approached us. Also, we were not given any clear information over the 7-hour period about why the plane wasn’t taking off. Later, we called the so-called tourist police, and they also arrived at the airport three hours later. It was decided that everyone should be transported to their hotels. However, it turned out that the hotels where they were taking us were not coordinated, there was no accommodation available for us, and until now, no one has been placed in a hotel,” Siranush Grigoryan noted.
In a conversation with Tert.am, the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee stated that the flight operated by Air Cairo has been delayed due to technical reasons. “Air Cairo informed us that the flight was not canceled, but delayed. According to preliminary data, the flight is supposed to take place at 20:00 local time (22:00 Yerevan time). They reported that all passengers who were supposed to depart in the morning have been accommodated in hotels,” the Civil Aviation Committee representatives said.
