Before the Revolution, $400 Million Worth of Work Done at Amulsar, Prime Minister

During Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's visit to Jermuk, a woman approached him, stating that she had come from the United States in response to the Prime Minister's call. She requested that the exploitation of the Amulsar mine be abandoned.
“I have come to live in an ecologically clean place, and I want this pristine nature to be preserved. After living 27 years in America, I wouldn’t want to come to a place where nature is to be degraded,” she said.

Pashinyan responded by raising the question of whether this would indeed have such an impact or not. According to the Prime Minister, this is the most important question that needs an answer. To the woman's comment that a competent person should be brought in to answer that question, the Prime Minister replied, “We bring in a competent person, and then we’re told, ‘No, this one doesn’t seem that competent.’ Now we have to gather all the most competent people in the world.”

Pashinyan noted that he was pleased with the hostess's confession that she had come to Armenia following his call. The Prime Minister stated that everything would be done to ensure that the exploitation of the Amulsar mine does not affect the air, soil, water, or noise levels.
“Before the revolution, $400 million worth of work was done on this little mountain. Just imagine how much the mountain will be changed. We have no other option. During the latest consultations I've held, I asked, ‘What is the challenge? Is it that ten units of contaminated water should be discharged from there, and we set the challenge that this water must be at 8, 2, or 1?’ They say, ‘0,’ and I ask, ‘How are we going to ensure that?’ They tell me there is a plan for daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring. This means that this group, under the auspices of the state, will go and collect grass from the opposite mountain, and there will be representatives from the company, government, and civil society in the group,” the Prime Minister informed.

He also assured that if it turns out, for example, that the dust from the mine’s exploitation exceeds the allowable levels, a period of time will be given for it to be removed; if it is not removed, the mine will be closed.
