New Zealand Speaker Feeds Lawmaker's Baby During Session

The New Zealand Parliament welcomed a special guest in the chamber - a one-month-old baby. According to CNN, Speaker Trevor Mallard cradled and bottle-fed the child of one of the lawmakers while presiding over the session.

"Normally, the Speaker’s chair is used only by those chairing the sessions, but today I share this chair with a very important person," Mallard wrote on his Twitter page.

As the debates took place, the Speaker rocked the baby, receiving positive feedback on social media for his gesture. Last year, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern also garnered media attention when she became the first sitting prime minister to give birth while in office. Ardern and her husband brought their baby along to a United Nations conference, stating it was a "practical decision."

However, such actions are not universally accepted. Just days ago in Kenya, a lawmaker brought a child to a session, but was asked to leave the chamber.
