Member of 'Sasna Tsrer' Smbat Barseghyan Will Not Be Released; Court Denies Petition

The presiding judge in the case of the 10 members of the 'Sasna Tsrer' group, Mesrop Makyan, has just returned from the deliberation room and decided to deny the petition by the defendant Smbat Barseghyan's lawyer, Mushegh Shushanyan, regarding the termination of the arrest as a preventive measure or the selection of another measure not related to deprivation of liberty.

Earlier, the prosecutor in the case, Petros Petrosyan, argued against the presented petition, stating that the defense had not mentioned any new circumstances regarding the necessity to change the preventive measure.

The heirs of the victims in the case also objected to the petition. Specifically, the widow of police officer Yuri Tephanosyan, who was shot outside of the patrol police battalion and later died in the hospital, Arpine Tumasyan, stated, "Smbat Barseghyan does not have the right to see the sun."

It should be noted that Smbat Barseghyan has been charged with the murder of police officer Yuri Tephanosyan. Thus, today’s court session concluded; the case's next session will examine the physical evidence available in the case.
