Stepanavan Forest to Be Monitored with Sensor Devices

Modern technologies are increasingly entering the forests of Armenia. This was reported by the Ministry of Environment.

According to the announcement from the ministry, following the recorded cases of illegal logging in the territories of the Stepanavan forestry, 10 sensor monitoring devices have been installed.

The devices capture the sounds of saws, chainsaws, fires, or any other movements within seconds and send GSM signals to a server, where a specially developed program distinguishes their nature and transmits the coordinates to the systems registered on the network, alerting the forest protectors' phones and computers.

Depending on the landscape of the forest, the devices can monitor areas with a radius of 2 to 10 kilometers and are equipped with anti-tampering systems.

The program is pilot-based, and after successful testing and addressing any gaps, it will be expanded. The manufacture of the aforementioned devices, called Forest guard, and their software maintenance has been ensured by Hi-Tech Gateway Vanadzor Branch.
