Hope Placed on New Technologies: Stepanavan's Forests to be Monitored with Sound-sensitive Sensors
Modern technologies are making their way into Armenia's forests. In response to recorded cases of illegal logging, 10 sensor monitoring devices have been installed in the territories of the Stepanavan forest enterprise. This information was provided by the Ministry of Environment.
The devices capture sounds of chainsaws, fires, or any other movements within seconds and send GSM signals to a server, where a specially designed program differentiates their nature and transmits the coordinates to the systems registered in the network, alerting the forest guardians on their phones and computers.
Depending on the forest landscape, the devices can monitor areas with a range of 2 to 10 kilometers and are equipped with anti-tampering systems. The program is currently in a pilot phase, and following successful testing and addressing any gaps, it will be expanded.
