VIDEO: Another Illegal Timber and Charcoal Discovery

The Police of Armenia reports that the fight against illegal tree felling continues. On August 5, police in the Tavush region uncovered yet another case.

Around 4:30 AM, officers from the Tavush Regional Police Department and the Ijevan Division, acting on operational information, stopped a Volvo truck suspected of transporting illegal timber near one of the restaurants in Ijevan. Externally, nothing seemed amiss; the truck's cargo area was sealed.

The 29-year-old driver, from the village of Darakert in the Ararat region, failed to present the necessary documents and claimed that the truck was loaded with 15 cubic meters of side boards. The truck was transported to a designated secure area of the Ijevan Division of Police.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the timber belonged to a 39-year-old resident of Berdavan village, who has been summoned to the division. He had purchased the boards in Noyemberyan.

Upon inspection of the truck, law enforcement discovered more than 16 cubic meters of linden and oak side boards, as well as 245 sacks of charcoal. The circumstances are being clarified, and materials are being prepared on the case.
