Former High-Ranking Police Officer Facing Charges in March 1 Case May Be Released Today
The former high-ranking police officer Gegham Petrosyan, who is charged in connection with the March 1 case and is currently in custody, may be released today. He is accused of the murder of Zakhar Hovhannisyan during the events of March 1.
Today marks the end of Petrosyan's two-month detention period, which was set by the court based on the investigator's request from the Investigative Committee (IC). However, according to our information, no request has been submitted by the IC for the extension of the detention period, which means that Petrosyan's detention term has expired, and he should be released.
The charges against Petrosyan were brought 11 years after the events of March 1. The 70-year-old Petrosyan was the deputy commander of the police troops in 2008, and he is now accused of killing Zakhar Hovhannisyan using a firearm.
