Masked Individuals Attempted Burglary from Private Residence, Gunshots Fired

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed several circumstances regarding an attempted burglary case in the Ajapnyak and Davtasheh administrative districts. One individual has been arrested.

According to the Investigative Committee, on July 26, 2019, a resident of Yerevan reported to the Mashtots Police Department that around 04:20 that day, two masked individuals illegally entered their private residence by opening the living room window with technical means. However, upon encountering her husband unexpectedly, they fled the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated under part 3, point 1.1 of Article 34-177 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. An investigative-operational group promptly arrived at the scene. Numerous investigative and operational-search measures were conducted, including a site inspection, sample collection, seizures, and interviews.

During the preliminary investigation, several circumstances of the incident were clarified, including the identity of one of the alleged criminals, a Yerevan resident born in 1994.

Evidence indicates that this 25-year-old young man conspired with several others to illegally enter a residence with the intent of secretly stealing another's property. On July 26, 2019, around 04:20, he approached the specified residence in a BMW X5 registered under someone else's name, illegally entered the premises by climbing over the fence, and opened a window to gain access to the first-floor balcony. However, upon encountering the homeowner in one of the second-floor bedrooms, he fled the scene, leaving the crime unfinished due to unforeseen circumstances.

Seeing one of the masked individuals entering his home, the homeowner fired two warning shots into the air from a gas pistol registered in his name.

As a result of operational-search activities, the 25-year-old was found and presented to the prosecuting body. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempting burglary by illegally entering a residence.

Based on sufficient evidence, he has been charged under part 3, point 1.1 of Article 34-177 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The investigator has submitted a request to the court for pre-trial detention, which has been granted.

Expert evaluations in forensic medicine, forensic genetics, and forensic fingerprinting have been scheduled to clarify significant circumstances of the case. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, with necessary investigative actions being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, identify the other individuals involved in the alleged crime, and provide a legal assessment of their actions.

Instructions have been given to the relevant police divisions to carry out the necessary operational-search and operational-investigative measures to identify and present the identities of the other individuals involved in the alleged crime to the prosecuting body.
