Judge Davit Grigoryan Issues Statement

Judge Davit Grigoryan, whose powers have been suspended and against whom a criminal case has been initiated, has issued a statement. The statement reads in part:

“Dear compatriots, as you may already have heard, I have been charged with allegations that I consider to be baseless and I do not accept. I believe there will be opportunities to express my opinions regarding the charges and the prosecution against me.

However, today I want to extend my special thanks to the nearly 100 lawyers who have publicly expressed their willingness to defend me in the context of this criminal case. I personally know many of you through our common work, while I may not know many others, but I am convinced that you all understand very well what is really happening, and your actions are aimed not only at supporting Judge Davit Grigoryan but also at ensuring the exclusion of pressures and persecutions in the establishment of an independent judicial system in our homeland.

I am proud and touched by the fact that the representatives of the legal profession, which is a vital component of the justice system, have not remained indifferent to the developments. I express my deepest gratitude to all of you, both collectively and individually.

I will ask my lawyers to regularly inform you about the progress of the case, and I will gladly accept any assistance from each of you. The establishment of justice in Armenia has no alternative, and the role of the legal profession has always been and will continue to be important along this path.”
