Armenian Church in Turkey to be Converted into Museum
In the Turkish province of Sivas (Sebastia), the 19th-century Armenian church located in the village of Gürün will operate as a museum after restoration. Mayor of Gürün, Nami Çeftçi, announced that the Armenian church will open as a museum and contribute to the development of tourism in the region, according to Ermenihaber news agency.
A budget of 3 million 684 thousand Turkish lira has been allocated for the reconstruction. The works have already commenced.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Gürün (historical name: Kyurin) had a population of about 3,000 people, more than half of whom, 1,550, were ethnic Armenians who were exterminated in 1915.
