48 Textbooks Will Be Available in Two Volumes

As part of the announced policy to lighten school backpacks, a number of textbooks will be published in two volumes for the new academic year. According to Ashot Arshakyan, head of the Department of General Education at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, starting from September 1, there will be 48 textbooks available in two volumes. Specifically, these include Mother Tongue for the second grade, Mathematics for the second grade, Russian Language for the third grade, Mother Tongue for the fourth grade, and English, French, and German for the fourth grade, among others.

All grades will have revised textbooks. "For those textbooks whose reprinting deadlines have expired, it was decided to split them into two parts. As a result, the weight of the textbooks will be reduced, and children will not have to carry heavy textbooks to school. We have received many complaints about this issue in the past, and now the problem is being resolved step by step," said Ashot Arshakyan.

The ministry representative noted that the division of textbooks into two parts is not mechanical. Before making this decision, the matter was discussed with publishers and authors. The lists, answers, and appendices present at the end of the textbooks will be preserved in both volumes. There have been no changes in the content of the textbooks, and their quality has not been compromised.

Ashot Arshakyan also mentioned that these 48 textbooks are not all the textbooks available. There are textbooks whose reprinting deadlines have not yet expired. In elementary school, their use period is three years, while in grades five and higher, it is five years.
