Arman Babajanyan, a member of the National Assembly from the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ faction, wrote on his Facebook page: “The former regime and its twenty-year oppressive system cannot be evaluated politically or legally without consequences. The political evaluation must be followed by a process of holding responsible high-ranking officials, military personnel, police officers, diplomats, representatives of political forces, judges, and oligarchs accountable.

On the other hand, as long as the new regime has not distanced itself from the previous oppressive system, has not initiated constitutional changes, and does not even think about forming a new system, it cannot evaluate the former regime, understanding the severe consequences this could have for its own existence.

At the same time, it should be noted that as long as that evaluation has not been made and those responsible have not been held accountable, the economy of Armenia continues to remain in the hands of monopolists and oligopolistic clans. Unless the previous regime is assessed, oligarchs will once again assume the position of rulers of the state’s economic and political system, and political power will either turn into an oligarch or become a servant to the oligarchy. This is a direct path to the destruction of the state.”
