Cisterns Loaded with Fuel Catch Fire at Tumanyan Station

This morning at 04:00, the 911 emergency service received a call reporting a fire in fuel-loaded cisterns in a freight train column near Tumanyan Station. It has been determined that the train heading from Bagratashen to Gyumri consists of 29 wagons, of which 17 are cisterns (50 tons capacity) loaded with fuel (gasoline), 4 are loaded with wheat, 1 with aluminum construction materials, while the remaining wagons are empty.

The second locomotive has derailed. A firefighting unit from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) has dispatched seven battle groups to the scene under a third alarm level due to the fire's complexity.

The fire extinguishing efforts are being assisted by a water carrier from Veolia Water Company’s Alaverdi branch and one water carrier from the municipal services of Alaverdi city. It has been established that two cisterns (the 3rd and 4th in the column) are burning, posing a fire spread risk to the other cisterns.

The fire was contained at 06:31. Further information will be provided.
