Video: We have individuals in the spotlight against whom operational actions are being taken, Osipyan on Ijevan incidents
The recent events in Ijevan constitute disorder and hooliganism. This was stated today by Police Chief Valeri Osipyan during a press conference, adding that a criminal case has been opened for resisting a representative of the authorities.
“Our goal is to identify them and hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Currently, we have 29 individuals detained and 13 arrested; 10 were taken into custody two days ago. Work in this direction will continue. We have a list of those who played a more active role that day, including inflicting bodily harm on police officers,” Osipyan said.
Regarding illegal logging, the police chief announced that law enforcement will take a principled stance, stating that illegal tree cutting will no longer be tolerated in Ijevan and in all other regions of the Republic. Osipyan emphasized that they will be stricter on this issue, as forests are the wealth of Armenia.
In response to the observation that there is a viewpoint suggesting that oligarchs stand behind illegal logging rather than the protesters of Ijevan, Osipyan responded: “The police are conducting relevant work; we have individuals in the spotlight against whom operational actions are being taken. At this moment, I will not disclose names due to the circumstances of the case. We have alleged suspects, but the grounds must be clear so that we do not encounter the issues we sometimes have in the future.”
