Sevan is Rapidly Self-Cleaning: Aiser Ghazaryan
The former Deputy Minister of Environment of Armenia and expert Aiser Ghazaryan has published another image reflecting the current condition of Lake Sevan on his Facebook page. "Little Sevan as of 07:26:04 on July 19, 2019..", Ghazaryan writes.
It should be noted that Ghazaryan, commenting on the white tint in the lake, mentioned that the whitish hues are conditioned by the bicarbonates synthesized due to the absorption of carbon dioxide in the lake. Active photosynthesis processes of algae/cyanobacteria are taking place in the lake, resulting in the degradation and 'assimilation' by the lake itself.
According to experts, the blue-green algae do not leave the lake after the bloom period; instead, they accumulate at the bottom of the water and turn into organic matter, which contributes to the swamping of the lake.
