VIDEO: Do you find the police to be 'velvet'? I disagree, Deputy Police Chief

On July 18, Vardan Movsisyan, Deputy Chief of the Police of Armenia, addressed the criticism regarding the police being 'weakened' during a conversation with journalists. He responded that the police are working to be loyal to the population and exercise force only in accordance with the law.

"The police can use force, and naturally, it can create the impression that this is a weakness of the police, with which I do not agree. We have instances where roads are blocked, and sometimes people's demands may seem justifiable, while at other times they may not be. The police carry out their functions strictly in accordance with the law," he said.

In response to journalists' remarks that the police have also been 'velvet' since the revolution, Movsisyan replied, "I do not think so. Do you find it to be velvet? I disagree. If the need arises, if there is a necessity, the police will be very decisive and will certainly exercise their power within the legal limits if necessary."
