Another Working Group of the Ombudsman Visits Police to Meet with Detained Individuals

In connection with the clashes that occurred in Ijevan yesterday, another working group, appointed by the Human Rights Defender, has been present at the Main Department for the Fight Against Organized Crime of the Police since early morning. The office of the Ombudsman reports this.

The purpose of the visit is to meet with the detained and arrested citizens, as well as to check on the issue of ensuring their rights.

Based on the results of the visit, additional information will be provided.

It should be noted that yesterday evening, on July 17, clashes occurred between protesters blocking the road demanding the cessation of logging and police officers, resulting in injuries to both police officers and citizens.

Since yesterday, the head of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, Valery Osipyan, along with officers from various police units, has been in Ijevan.

As a result of the clashes, 12 police officers were injured and transferred to the Ijevan Medical Center, with eight of them later transported to Yerevan.

A total of 13 individuals have been arrested on suspicion of hooliganism using objects as weapons, while another 6 individuals have been subjected to the preventive measure of a signature not to leave.
