„Dissolve that commission“: Silva Adamyan on the Lake Sevan Conservation Expert Commission
The Lake Sevan Conservation Expert Commission should be dissolved as it has been inactive for years. This was stated today by environmentalist Silva Adamyan, a member of the „SOS Sevan“ initiative, during a working discussion organized by the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) at the National Assembly on the topic "Issues of Lake Sevan and Paths to Their Solutions," addressing the commission's chairman Yuri Javadyan.
“Gather a new commission because this one has been inactive for years. It has done everything possible to bring Sevan to its current state. The members of your commission have remained silent for years, stating that everything is fine and all government decisions are correct, while ignoring the calls raised by 'SOS Sevan' and coming here to say that the National Park's management is to blame. That’s not true; the biggest responsibility lies with you, and you have done nothing,” stated the environmentalist.
After Adamyan's speech, Naira Zohrabyan directed a question to Yuri Javadyan: “Mr. Javadyan, do you accept the accusation from 'SOS Sevan' that you share responsibility for the current state of Sevan?”
Javadyan responded by saying that environmentalists are unaware of the work of the commission members: “Our commission members are mainly directors from the academy and institutes; they are doctoral professors who are knowledgeable and are doing significant work. We send our commission's reports to the government within 3 days, and we will also present them to the National Assembly in 3 days. And I have not seen you for years.”
One of the attendees reacted to Javadyan's response: “You should see Sevan.”
