Armenian Ambassador Visits Armenian National Detained for Transferring Radioactive Material in Georgia
The legal counsel of the Armenian Embassy in Georgia met this morning, July 16, with an Armenian citizen who was detained for transferring radioactive materials. This was reported by the Armenian Embassy in Georgia.
"He is feeling well, has no complaints, and the lawyer has provided him with the embassy's phone number so he can call in case of any questions. We will provide any assistance required within the legal framework. He requested clothes and we have contacted his relatives to provide them, and we are helping his family to visit him since he is not familiar with the city. We are offering any technical assistance we can until the trial and will see what legal help we can provide," reported the Armenian Embassy.
Earlier, it was reported that on July 11, staff members of the State Security Service of Georgia arrested an Armenian citizen, M. M., who is suspected by the Georgian side of being the owner of the radioactive material found at the Armenian-Georgian border. The Tbilisi City Court has decided to apply detention as a precautionary measure against the Armenian citizen.
It should be noted that the detained citizen claims he purchased 71 kg of radioactive material intending to buy something else, but he was given this material instead.
