I Visited Robert Kocharyan a Few Days Ago: Human Rights Defender

I visited Robert Kocharyan a few days ago, and all questions related to the events of March 1 are generally in my focus. This was stated by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, during a conversation with reporters today, talking about the case of Robert Kocharyan and the request from his lawyers directed to the Human Rights Defender.

The Human Rights Defender is aware of the concerns regarding the actions of judges in this specific case. “I cannot express an opinion on them, as each concern pertains to the powers of the specific judge in the case. I can only mention that Mr. Alumyann publicly addressed me, after which I spoke with him, and we agreed that he would submit a written request regarding these issues. After studying the question in detail, we will understand whether it falls within our powers or not,” Tatoyan said.

Tatoyan noted that he visited Kocharyan after his imprisonment. The visit took place a few days ago at the initiative of the Human Rights Defender, taking into account the concerns from the defense side. “My task is related to the issues of detention conditions. No complaints have been received regarding the conditions of detention. I cannot divulge the details of the private conversation, but regarding the concerns, Kocharyan expressed the same worries that pertain to the courts and which are raised by the lawyers,” Tatoyan stated, adding that he informed Kocharyan that the concerns do not fall within the scope of the Human Rights Defender’s powers.
