Police Officials Charged with Torturing a Citizen
Two officials of the Armenian Police have been charged with torturing a citizen during his transport to a police station in a vehicle after the individual committed a crime. According to reports from “Factinfo,” the incident occurred on March 2, 2019, when a senior operative of the fight against drug addiction division and another operative from the Shengavit division of the police transferred a citizen from in front of the “Shengavit” metro station to the Shengavit police department, during which they tortured him with the intention of punishing him for an act committed.
According to the judicial information system, the police officials have been charged under Article 309.1, Part 2, Clause 4 of the Armenian Criminal Code for torture by a group of officials. It is noted that they were initially taken into custody as a preventive measure, although this was later replaced with an alternative measure of bail.
