We Need a Safety System for High Voltage Fluctuations: Mikayel Melkumyan

We need a safety system for high voltage fluctuations. This was stated by Mikayel Melkumyan, a member of the 'Prosperous Armenia' faction in the Parliament, in an interview with Tert.am, referring to the recent accident in the energy system.

“Naturally, it still needs to be clarified whether there was a human factor involved or not, but I believe we need to have an energy security scheme that ensures fluctuations do not have destructive impacts, and that generating stations do not go offline all at once. Because in this case, national security issues arise; after energy security, there are also life support systems to consider,” he said, adding that Armenia needs a proper risk management system.

Melkumyan noted that he cannot make any statements based on unverified information. “If this is a consequence of poor management or a human factor, which still needs to be clarified, that is certainly one issue. Secondly, the system must be designed in such a way that the human factor does not play a role; it should be automated and guaranteed in a way that does not depend on one or two individuals, and this is also a fact. We can state that we need to receive real guarantees regarding the safety system,” he said.
