«Hraparak». Godfather, Student, Friend. Who Have Become YSU Vice Rectors
«Hraparak» newspaper reports: YSU acting rector Gegham Gevorgyan, upon assuming the position, immediately set about restructuring YSU, primarily aiming to dissolve the student engagement center and remove its director Vahagn Varagyan, appointing Davit Petrosyan from the ‘Restart’ initiative as the head of the newly unified center, as well as getting rid of unwanted vice rectors. Three vice rectors of YSU have already been dismissed from their positions.
Two days ago, the first vice rector was appointed: Elina Asriyan, a lecturer at YSU and a former student of Gevorgyan. Asriyan did not deny this fact in her conversation with us. Is this not a case of favoritism? “I don’t think so. If you come back and see my numbers at the university, you’ll understand that there hasn’t been any such influence.”
Regarding the other two vice rectors, Gevorgyan announced that in early August, Rafael Barkhudaryan, director of the mathematics institute of the academy, who is his former graduate student, will become one vice rector. The third vice rector will likely be Arthur Israelian, secretary of the YSU Board of Trustees, who is a friend of Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Arayik Harutunyan and serves as his eyes and ears in the rectorate.
Thus, are only desired individuals becoming vice rectors? “No, there are former vice rectors who are still in office.” When we asked Asriyan who she thinks will become the rector of YSU, perhaps she would prefer her godfather? “I want someone devoted to the university, someone who understands and feels the university.” But what is your attitude towards the potential candidate for rector, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan? “I do not know him personally.” For more details, refer to today’s issue of the newspaper.
