Deputy Minister Reveals Details of Power Grid Accident
Frequency fluctuations have occurred in the energy system, causing the relay protection of major manufacturers to trip, said Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan to Radiolur. Initially, the fifth block of the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant was disconnected, followed by the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant and then the Yerevan HPP.
At one point, only the Vorotan cascade was operational, and we were importing electricity from Iran as a result of the energy crisis, Vardanyan explained.
Currently, restoration work is ongoing, as are the frequency fluctuations. “I cannot specify a time for when the system will be restored; the electricity supply for the Sevan-Hrazdan cascade has been restored,” Hakob Vardanyan stated.
In Yerevan HPP, water has been drained, and efforts are underway to quickly restore it to reconnect to the grid. It will take at least four to five hours. Work is currently underway with Georgia to ensure additional energy supply from there.
