Court Issues Unanticipated Ruling on Armenian State Economic University

According to NEWS.am, the Acting Rector of the Armenian State Economic University, Ruben Hayrapetyan, is facing a serious issue. The problem arises as the competition for vacant teaching positions at the university has concluded, yet the university cannot employ the successful candidates due to a court ruling.

It should be noted that a group of lecturers from the Armenian State Economic University filed a lawsuit last month against Acting Rector Ruben Hayrapetyan, arguing that the announcement of the competition for vacant teaching positions contradicts the "Law on Higher Education."

The lecturers are requesting the court to declare the "Regulation on the Selection and Appointment of the Scientific and Pedagogical Staff of the Armenian State Economic University" and the decision of the university's Scientific Council from April 30, 2019, as well as the announcement regarding the competition for "Vacant Teaching Positions" at the Economic University as having no legal force.

Judge Ruben Nersisyan of the Yerevan City Court recently decided to grant the request made by 17 lecturers of the Armenian State Economic University to implement interim measures.

As a measure of protection for the lawsuit, the court has decided to prohibit the implementation of the "Regulation on the Selection and Appointment of the Scientific and Pedagogical Staff of the Armenian State Economic University." This ruling came into effect on July 4 and is subject to immediate enforcement.
