The Number of Fallen Livestock Has Increased

The number of fallen large livestock in the Gegharkunik region has increased. The Food Safety Inspection Body informed Panorama.am that according to the data provided by the Gegharkunik Territorial Center, 10 large livestock were registered dead in Karmirgyugh, 9 in Dzovinar, 6 in Karchaghbyur, and 8 in Artanish. In total, 32 livestock have perished.

“The meat of the fallen animals has been sent for laboratory testing. The results are not yet available,” said Anush Harutyunyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Inspection Body, to the news agency.

It should be noted that the animals began to die from last Friday. There were opinions that the reason may be the green water of Lake Sevan, which the livestock may have consumed. Several dozen animals have bloated, some were sent for slaughter, and some managed to be rescued.

The head of the Inspection Body, G. Avetisyan, noted: “The incident occurred in the forests next to Karchaghbyur village, where there is a marshy area that grows bulrush. Experts know that young, wet bulrush can cause bloating in ruminants, leading to deaths. According to preliminary data, this is the cause.”
