I Hope This Is Not Just a Reaction to Recent Tragic Accidents: Hakob Karapetyan

Hakob Karapetyan, the press secretary of the Yerevan Mayor, wrote on his Facebook page: "In the afternoon, I was returning from Sevan. There were a significant number of police officers at the traffic police checkpoint, stopping all vehicles, inspecting them, and wishing safe travels. As I understood, the action was preventive, aimed simply at alerting drivers.

On the road, there were also more police cars than usual. I hope this is not just a response to the tragic accidents of recent days, and that strict road control will be ongoing. It is very good when people are mindful of the presence of police; this is one of the primary conditions for a nation and a state to evolve from a chorus of song and dance.

I also hope that traffic oversight will be strict in both small and large cities, as there is a significant need for it. For instance, today, once again, I witnessed a disgraceful habit. In our Sevan city, a male driver was driving his Soviet car with a 1-2-year-old child in his arms. I don’t even know what punishment the police have in place for such cases, but I would suggest that parental rights be revoked from such reckless individuals."
