Is the garbage bolder than us? Sona Aghekyan's message to Haik Marutyan
Former member of the Yerevan Council Sona Aghekyan conducted a tour of Shiraz Street in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan and broadcasted live, showcasing the trash littered on the street.
“I want to ask whether the garbage is bolder than us, or are we bolder in rejecting the garbage? If anyone claims that this garbage was thrown by our citizens, I won’t believe it because I witnessed several people bringing the garbage and trying to dispose of it on top. They don’t even clean up, they don’t even care, which means our municipal authorities don’t give a damn. In this hot summer days, we have an epidemic brewing,” she said. “If you cannot fulfill your seven election promises, we are obliged to voice that you are deliberately creating a situation in Yerevan that will lead to an epidemic; the city has been purposely turned into a dump. We have two landfills, but you have decided to turn Yerevan into a garbage pile.”
Sona Aghekyan stated that this attitude towards the citizens is intolerable and, if it continues, they will not only reject them but also take them to court. “Mr. Haik Marutyan, clean the city of garbage, otherwise we will clean the city of you. Enough is enough; the people of Yerevan are tired and will take action, and this time their actions will be thought out,” she concluded.
