Sasun Mikayelyan Will Not Resign from Mandate and Will Provide Clarifications Soon
Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that Sasun Mikayelyan, a member of the 'My Step' faction, is so offended by not being elected to the Board of the Political Party that he is considering resigning from his mandate. Today's media even states that he has remarked, 'I will throw the mandate in their faces.' Especially since Mikayelyan has become inaccessible lately, these rumors seem more credible.
We attempted to verify with Mikayelyan's close associates whether there is any intention to resign. They assured us one hundred percent that he has no plans to resign, but Mikayelyan is not pleased with the current situation in the country.
If discontent within the ruling party arises from the lack of support for the ruling candidate during the elections for the mayor of Abovyan, he has never hidden his support for the current mayor, whom he considers a successful mayor for having exceeded budget expectations and improved the city.
On the other hand, the governor, Romanos Petrosyan, who declared war on the mayor of Abovyan, is viewed by Mikayelyan as an unsuccessful governor, despite the fact that he initially brought him into the party and supported his advancement.
It should be noted that the relationship between the governor and Sasun Mikayelyan has deteriorated significantly, especially after the elections in Abovyan. Following the conference of the political party and the elections for the board, Mikayelyan has also somewhat cooled his relations with other government structures and has not been attending the National Assembly. However, it has been said that he plans to come soon and clarify all the questions directed at him.
According to our information, after the conference of the party, although Mikayelyan's exclusion from the board was attributed to Nikol Pashinyan as punishment for the elections in Abovyan, his close associates are convinced this was not a directive from the Prime Minister but rather the efforts of some party members.
They believe that not only Romanos Petrosyan but possibly Arsen Torosyan, Ruben Rubinyan, Vilen Gabrielyan, Hakob Simidyans, and others, who did not show good results when elected to the board, may have worked against Sasun Mikayelyan. It is possible that Mikayelyan would have even declined to be a member of the board after being elected, as he is satisfied with his position as president of the Yerkrapah Volunteers' Union, but he is nonetheless hurt by such treatment.
Incidentally, after the elections, Nikol Pashinyan apologized to Sasun Mikayelyan in an attempt to win his heart and smooth over the situation. Overall, Mikayelyan is one of the few people who regularly meets with Pashinyan and expresses his thoughts, especially regarding the mistakes made by the authorities.
