Georgia's Interior Minister Makes Public Statement Following Tbilisi Clashes
The Interior Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, has made a public statement following the bloody events of June 20. "On June 20, protesters attempted to storm the parliament building in Tbilisi and seize power," he stated during a press conference while commenting on the situation that unfolded near the parliament building that night.
It is noteworthy that participants in the demonstration accuse Gakharia of the brutal crackdown on the protest that occurred during the night of June 21, when police used tear gas and rubber bullets against the demonstrators. As a result of the clashes, 240 individuals were injured, including 80 police officers.
"I am responsible for the actions taken that night. I accept this responsibility. I believe that the police exercised their legitimate right that heavy night. Until accountability is established regarding the misuse of force, I am here to defend the interests of all police officers," said Giorgi Gakharia.
