Three Thick-Trunked Trees Cut Down Near Matenadaran
In Yerevan, three thick-trunked trees have been cut down near the Matenadaran. The tree cutters assure that they did not chop down healthy trees, claiming that these trees had aged.
Levon Hovhannisyan, head of the Tree Management Department of the Central Administrative District, clarified in an interview with Tert.am that they responded to an alert and discovered that the root system of the plane trees was decayed.
"At 2:30 AM, we received a report from address 49 Mashtots, stating that a plane tree was on fire. The Ministry of Emergency Situations was on site. Upon arrival, we determined that it was a silver plane tree that had undergone deep pruning and had a disease, while its root system was completely decayed. After preventing the fire yesterday evening, we decided to carry out cutting work in the morning," he said.
Hovhannisyan noted that the cut trees were beyond their age since plane trees live for about 35-40 years, while these trees were around 50-60 years old. He assured that new trees would be planted in their place this autumn.
