VIDEO: Situation in Georgia. Alen Simonyan

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, has described the current situation in Georgia through a Facebook video address.

It is noteworthy that during the 26th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy held in Tbilisi, which was chaired by Russian State Duma deputy Sergey Gavrilov, members of the 'European Georgia' party stormed the session hall with placards and chants demanding that Gavrilov not conduct the session from the speaker's chair. They declared that 'Russia is an occupier, and the presence of Russian deputies in the hall is an insult to Georgia and Ukraine.'

Present at the session were Armenian deputies Alen Simonyan, Iveta Tonoyan, Arpi Davoyan, and Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, who decided to leave the session hall. Later, Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan went live on Facebook to explain what transpired in the Georgian Parliament, stating that they left the session hall to avoid unnecessary speculation.

'The Russians are also allies and a brotherly nation, and the Georgians are a brotherly nation as well. In short, we found ourselves caught between two stones. We left the hall, and the event was postponed. It is unfortunate that such things occur,' he noted.
